What is an EICR

An EICR or Electrical Installation Condition Report is a survey that checks the condition of the electrical installation in a building – this includes cables, switches, the fuse board and sockets.

The electrical installation must meet regulated standards to ensure safety for the occupants of the building. If there are faults within the electrical installation, there is a risk of electrical shocks or fires, potentially causing injury to the occupants.

Landlords are expected to ensure the safety of their tenants throughout the tenancy of the property, so getting a qualified electrician to check the property and issue a an electrical installation condition report (EICR) is incredibly important.

The Electrical Safety Standards recommend that an EICR should be conducted at intervals of no more than five years, however the frequency of the EICR could be greater than this depending on the age of the electrical installation.
